Kilifi and Lamu counties register the least number of students joining national schools countrywide. Kakamega, Nairobi and Taita Taveta record the highest number.

The national school selection ended on Saturday while the other selection process has kicked off today 2nd December 2019.

The same counties that recorded the least national school students' selection conversion rate last year were hit with teenage pregnancies. Despite the fact that campaigns for taking people back to school, Kilifi county topped on counties with old pupils in 2019.

So far Lamu has only 2 grade C national schools, Lamu boys and Lamu girls while Kilifi has 4 grade C national schools which include; Ribe boys and girls, St. Georges and St Johns.

Kilifi county had only 3 percent of all 2019 KCPE candidates joining National schools,  Lamu has 5 percent respectively.

Kakamega leads the conversion rate at 30 percent while Nairobi, Taita Taveta follows at 28 percent, 22 percent respectively.

National schools were categorized according to performance and facilities. The old National schools remained at grade A because they had enough facilities and better performance.

A new set of provisional level secondary schools were categorized as grade B while some at grade C.

Some Provisional schools which had insufficient facilities and poor performance were left out.

Nairobi, Kiambu, Kisumu, Kakamega, Machakos, Kirinyaga and Uasin Gishu are the only counties with more National schools (grade A, B, C)
