Thousands of Kisii residents tossed themselves, defying social-distancing rules on Thursday to welcome and mingle freely with Deputy President William Ruto.
However, in the morning, anti-Ruto demonstrations had shaken Kisii town with pro-handshake protesters barricading roads.
Another wing of Ruto supporters, among them bodaboda riders joined the fight, attempting to overthrow the anti-Ruto protesters.
Normalcy was reestablished hours later after police officers tossed teargas at the protesters, successfully disbanding them.
