Pastor Wa Vijana, One of the divers who has been helping to retrieve bodies at Kware Pit has been arrested by police officers; it's alleged he is detained at Ruben police station. The youth are protesting and demanding his release.
Sources within the police department claim that the man was arrested after revealing real figures of the number of people who were retrieved, contradicting the publicly released figure.
It is not clear why, even after helping the homicide detectives retrieve the bodies, the police want to put them under custody. No police officer has publicly revealed the reasons for his arrest.
The DCI said that all six bodies were female and had been killed in the same manner.
In a statement, the Director of Criminal Investigations, Mohamed Amin, said the bodies were severely mutilated and were in various stages of decomposition.
"The discovery of six severely mutilated female bodies in various stages of decomposition raised the alarm."
He stated that they wrapped the bodies in nylon papers and reinforced them with nylon ropes.
An abandoned quarry, now filled with water and used as a dump site, was the site of the discovery.
Amin added that the Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) personnel from Embakasi quickly arrived at the scene, retrieving the bodies and documenting the area.
The bodies have been transported to the Nairobi Funeral Home (City Mortuary) to await a postmortem.
"Homicide detectives and officers from the Forensics Division of the DCI are currently analysing samples to identify the bodies," he added.
As the investigation continues, we have cordoned off and designated the area as a crime scene.
Amin called on Kenyans to cooperate with the authorities as investigations continue.
