The State Department for Correctional Services arrested and prosecuted suspects in the KES.450 million theft following a public tip-off and inconsistent reporting of budget expenditures.
EACC has arrested 5 out of 13 suspects in connection with the theft of over Ksh 450 million from the Ministry of Interior, State Department for Correctional Services.
Eric Kipkirui Mutai, a cleaner at the State Department, is among the arrested suspects. He owns seven companies that received Ksh 257 million of the stolen amount.
Kilimani Police Station is currently holding the suspects, awaiting their arraignment tomorrow at 9:00 a.m.
EACC is pursuing eight more suspects, including former Deputy Commissioner General of Prisons, Mr. Benjamin Njoga.
Civil suits for recovery of the lost funds are ongoing before the High Court. The EACC pledges to persist in its investigation, targeting additional individuals at Nyayo House and Harambee House for comparable arrests following the exposure of a syndicate.
